Hobie 14
The Hobie Cat 14 is a 14 foot long sailing catamaran, with the patented raised trampoline system for dryer sailing, and asymmetrical hulls (without dagger boards), which prevents sideways drift.
The hulls on the Hobie 14 are constructed using a layer of foam, sandwiched in-between two layers of fibreglass. Each hull is equipped with a patented, adjustable kick-up rudder, which lifts out of harm's way upon contact with the bottom, for easy beaching.
The Hobie Cat 14 is usually sold without a jib sail, but a jib-equipped version of the Hobie 14, known as the Hobie 14 Turbo, is also available.
The Hobie Cat 14 was originally designed to be sailed by one sole sailor, with just a main sail, but two people can comfortably sail aboard a Hobie 14. You can also modify your standard Hobie 14 with a "turbo kit", which will add a furling jib sail and a trapeze system.
The Hobie 14 is no longer manufactured by Hobie North America, but you can still purchase a new Hobie 14 from some Hobie manufacturers in other parts of the world, including Hobie South Africa and Hobie Europe.
The Hobie 14 and Hobie 16 share many of the same parts. In fact, with the sails down, the Hobie 14 and Hobie 16 catamarans are rather hard to tell apart without a measuring tape!
The Hobie 14 was designed to sail in the surf, which can be lots of fun. It can also be put to use as a youth trainer for sailing the larger Hobie Cat 16. The Hobie Cat 14 is recognised by the International Yacht Racing Union (IYRU) as an International Class, and has proven it's worth in the European and World Championships.
Hobie Cat 14 physical dimensions:
The Hobie 14 is 4,25 m (14 ft.) long, 2,31 m (77 ft. 8 in.) wide, with a 6,78 m (22 ft.) high mast and a weight capacity of 109 kg (500 lbs).
The mainsail area on the Standard Hobie 14 is 10,46 m² (118 sq. ft.). And the jib sail on the Hobie 14 Turbo adds an additional sail area of 2,80 m² (30 sq. ft.).
The Hobie 14 has a draft of only 8 in., making it ideal for launcing off the beach.

He laughs in the face of fear, or is it just a nervous giggle?
He's a man with a plan, or is he hopelessly adrift at sea?
He knows absolutely nothing about sailing, or does he know absolutely nothing about web sites?
You'll surely be able to stand him, because he'll let you cruise along for free!
