Zeekoevlei Yacht Club
Zeekoevlei Yacht Club incorporates Alfred Rowing Club and Western Cape Radio Yacht Club.
The south-easterly winds that frequent the waters at Zeekoevlei provide challenging sailing conditions, without the huge swells of the sea. This makes Zeekoevlei Yacht Club a great pleace to learn to sail, or to receive more advanced sailor training.Zeekoevlei Yacht Club has a Tuck Shop, which is open during events and on Sundays from 09h00 to 17h00. The Zeekoevlei Yacht Club Bar is open during events, and on Friday and Sunday evenings evenings, from 18h30. The swimming pool and braai (BBQ) facilities are available to Members at all times.
The City Council set regulations for power boats at Zeekoevlei Yacht Club: Recreational use of power boats are not allowed. Only boats sanctioned for use in training, and/or rescue, may be launched from the Yacht Club premises. But power boats may be launched from the Cape Peninsula Aquatic Club in Strandfontein Road.
Zeekoevlei Yacht Club was founded in 1932. Sailing was hampered by weed in 1939 - (Potomageton, NOT the smoking kind). But sailing prevailed and in 1954 Zeekoevlei Yacht Club expanded to the adjoining property, knows as 'Skippers'. The Vlei had to be dredged in 1979, and the clubhouse burnt to the ground in 1983, but Zeekoevlei Yacht Club kept on sailing, and still does.
The sailing highlight on the Zeekoevlei Yacht Club calender is the annual Club Championships, usually held around February. To get to Zeekoevlei Yacht Club from Cape Town, drive east along the N2 highway. Take the M5 exit south (towards Muizenberg). After about 15 km, take the Grassy Park turn off (Victoria Road). Turn right at the fourth intersection (Peninsula Road) to pass between Zeekoevlei (on the right) and Rondevlei (on the left). The road turns sharply to the left. Now turn left. Governer's Walk leads right up to Zeekoevlei Yacht Club. (If my directions absolutely suck, please visit the Zeekoevlei Yacht Club website for a map!)
Zeekoevlei Yacht Club is busy, friendly and happy to welcome new sailors and their families.
Zeekoevlei Yacht Club snail mail goes to P.O. Box 118, Plumstead, 7801, Western Cape, South Africa.

He has no beard, or is that because he is a girl?
He laughs in the face of fear, or is it just a nervous giggle?
He's a man with a plan, or is he hopelessly adrift at sea?
He knows absolutely nothing about sailing, or does he know absolutely nothing about web sites?
You'll surely be able to stand him, because he'll let you cruise along for free!
Sailing like crazy
