A 'tempest' is a violent windstorm, frequently accompanied by rain, snow, or hail.

'Tempest' can also mean 'furious agitation', 'commotion', 'tumult' or 'uproar'. Shakespeare used the term 'tempest' like this: "The tempest in my mind/Doth from my senses take all feeling."

'A tempest in a teacup' means 'a great uproar about a matter of little importance'.

"tempest" is a noun.
