burgee
A little flag flown atop a mast.
A burgee may indicate the apparent wind direction, but is mainly intended for distinguishing a yacht.
The word "burgee" could possibly have originated from the French word bourgeais - shipowner. But instead of indicating who the owner of the yacht is, today the burgee will most probably indicate which yacht club the owner belongs to.
A burgee is most often a triangular flag.
"burgee" is a noun.
